Dr.Abdur Razaq
Biography
Dr. Abdur Razaq is a Lecturer at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, Pakistan, a position he has held since December 2025. A pharmacist by profession, he holds a BS (Hons) Pharm-D from Kohat University of Science and Technology, an MSc in Pharmacology, and a PhD in Pharmacogenomics, both from Khyber Medical University.
His doctoral research, defended in October 2025 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sami Siraj, examined the association of ABCB1 and CYP2C19 gene polymorphisms with clopidogrel plasma concentration and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. As part of his PhD training, he completed a fully funded six-month exchange program at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ghent University, Belgium, under the Higher Education Commission's International Research Support Initiative Program (IRSIP), where he worked on next-generation sequencing, Oxford Nanopore Technology, and bioinformatics analysis.
Dr. Razaq's research interests span pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics (HPLC-based analysis), precision medicine, and animal handling and disease model development. He brings hands-on expertise across molecular biology and sequencing techniques, including conventional and multiplex PCR, Sanger and next-generation sequencing, and various nucleic acid extraction and quantification methods. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications on clopidogrel pharmacogenomics and cardiovascular outcomes, as well as studies on ACE gene polymorphisms in hypertension and diabetic nephropathy.
He has prior experience as a Research Associate at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, KMU, where he mentored junior researchers and supervised laboratory techniques, and has supervised MPhil/MSc students during his academic career. His training has been supported by several competitive scholarships, including the HEC PhD Indigenous Scholarship and the Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarship.
