Biography

Dr. Muhammad Waseem Khan, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Pakistan. He hails from District Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his early academic journey laid the foundation for his professional career. He earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2019 under the prestigious Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Overseas Scholarship Program. He completed his M.Phil. in Pharmaceutics from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, in 2013 and obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) degree from Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan, in 2008.

Dr. Khan has established himself as a researcher in pharmaceutics and nanomedicine, with a particular focus on the development of advanced drug delivery systems. His doctoral research centered on the design and development of targeted nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for hepatocellular carcinoma, including dual drug-loaded nanoformulations aimed at overcoming cisplatin resistance and enhancing apoptosis in resistant cancer cells. His research encompassed pharmaceutical formulation development, nanoparticle characterization, extensive biological evaluation, western blotting, pharmacokinetic studies, biodistribution analysis, and in vivo antitumor efficacy in murine models.

Dr. Khan has published 25 research articles in peer-reviewed international journals, with a cumulative journal impact factor exceeding 128. His publications have appeared in internationally recognized journals, including RSC Advances and the International Journal of Nanomedicine. He is currently serving as the Principal Investigator of a prestigious Higher Education Commission, National Research Program for Universities (NRPU) project entitled "Nano-Based Gels for Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance in Diabetic Wound Management," with a total funding of PKR 11.35 million. This multidisciplinary project focuses on developing advanced nano-enabled topical gel formulations to combat antimicrobial-resistant pathogens associated with chronic diabetic wounds. The project integrates nanotechnology, pharmaceutical formulation, microbiological investigations, material characterization, and preclinical evaluation to develop innovative therapeutic approaches that enhance wound healing, reduce bacterial resistance, and improve patient outcomes.

Alongside his research, Dr. Khan has extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He teaches Pharmaceutics-I (Physical Pharmacy) and Pharmaceutical Quality Management in the Pharm-D program, while also contributing to graduate education through courses such as Advanced Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics and Formulation Design and Product Development. His teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, evidence-based learning, and research-oriented education, enabling students to integrate pharmaceutical sciences with practical healthcare applications.
