Ms. Aiman Shoaib
Biography
Aiman Shoaib is a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, Pakistan, where she is also currently pursuing a PhD in Pharmacology. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) from the University of Peshawar and an MPhil in Pharmacology from KMU, with her MPhil thesis, supervised by Prof. Dr. Sami Siraj, focused on epigenetic targeting in oral squamous cell carcinoma — identifying DNMT1 inhibitors and evaluating demethylation-based therapeutic approaches against cisplatin in primary cell models.
Her research centers on cancer epigenetics, computational drug discovery, and molecular pharmacology, with particular expertise in integrating wet-lab and in silico approaches. As a Research Assistant at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, KMU, she managed the cell culture laboratory, developed primary OSCC cell lines, and conducted drug screening studies, including IC50 determination, combination drug studies, and apoptosis assays. She combines strong molecular biology skills — PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, Western blotting — with computational proficiency in molecular docking tools such as AutoDock Vina, PyRx, PyMOL, and LigandScout, enabling her to pursue drug repurposing strategies alongside experimental validation.
She has authored publications on drug repurposing for cancer therapeutics, including work on loratadine as a DNMT1 inhibitor, and has ongoing studies examining DNA methylation induced by mebendazole and sitagliptin in OSCC cell lines. Prior to her research and teaching roles at KMU, she served as a Lecturer at Frontier Homeopathic Medical College.
eyond her research, Aiman has taken on leadership roles in academic capacity-building, serving as Lead Organizer for a workshop on computational drug designing and Focal Person for a workshop on 16S rRNA microbial diversity data analysis at KMU, and has participated in international training programs in advanced bioinformatics and data analysis.
