The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, organized a CME-approved hybrid workshop titled "Mastering 16S rRNA Microbial Diversity Data Analysis: A Hybrid Hands-On Workshop Using QIIME 2," spanning three days — an online introductory session on 6th June 2026, followed by physical hands-on sessions on 10–11 June 2026, at IPS, KMU.

The workshop provided participants with theoretical grounding and practical training in microbiome data analysis using QIIME 2, covering 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing fundamentals, quality control and denoising using the DADA2 pipeline, taxonomic classification via SILVA and Greengenes2 databases, and alpha/beta diversity analyses. Participants also gained exposure to statistical analysis, visualization techniques, and differential abundance analysis for identifying microbial biomarkers.

The workshop was organized under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sami Siraj, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, KMU, with Dr. Naeem Mahmood Ashraf serving as facilitator and Miss Aiman Shoaib, IPS, KMU, as Organizer/Focal Person. The training strengthened participants' bioinformatics competencies and promoted interdisciplinary research collaboration at KMU, concluding with a discussion session and certificate distribution.
